Machine-trowelled to a hard, dense, smooth surface

Power Trowel & Copter Finish

As the slab sets, a machine works the surface — a walk-behind power trowel for smaller areas, a ride-on copter for larger ones. The blades compact and close the surface, driving the fines down into a dense skin considerably harder than a hand-finished one.

You end up with a floor that is flat, tight and easy to live with. Outside is a different story — smooth plus wet is slippery, so driveways and pool surrounds want exposed aggregate or a brushed finish instead.

Where it belongs

What you get

What machine trowelling actually buys you

Why it is worth it

Flatness

A workbench that rocks and a roller cabinet that runs to one corner both come back to the slab.

Hardness

Compacting the surface makes it denser and more abrasion resistant than a slab that was screeded and left.

Less dust

A closed surface sheds far less of the fine powder a raw slab produces underfoot.

Easy to clean

A tight surface does not absorb oil and spills the way an open one does, so they clean off instead of soaking in.

Questions

We do not recommend it and we will not pour it outdoors. It is slippery wet. For a driveway you want exposed aggregate, coloured concrete or a brushed finish.

Yes. Polished concrete is a separate process — grinding and polishing the cured slab — and it is a popular workshop, garage and interior floor. Tell us at quoting stage so the slab is poured and finished with polishing in mind.

A walk-behind power trowel suits smaller and tighter areas and works into corners. A ride-on copter is for larger pours where speed matters. Either way the finish you are paying for is the same.

Yes, oxide can go through a slab that is being machine-trowelled. It works well under a polish.

Control joints are still cut, and they are still what stops random cracking.

The slab needs to gain strength before the shed goes up or a vehicle goes on it. We give you the dates when we finish the pour.
