A clean concrete strip along the fence line. Mow straight past it.

Fence Maintenance Strips

Also called a mowing strip or a fence plinth — a narrow band of concrete poured along the bottom of the fence line.

It solves three problems at once. You stop whipper snipping against the palings, which is what shreds the bottom of a timber fence. Weeds and grass stop growing up through the fence line. And the timber stops sitting in wet soil, which is where fence rot starts.

It is a small job with a long payback, and it is the cheapest concrete on this website per metre.

What you get

Getting it right at the fence line

What we get right

Working tight to a fence

Most of these go in against a fence that is already up, sometimes with a neighbour’s garden on the other side. Narrow access is normal for this work.

Width and height for the mower

Wide enough that a mower wheel runs on it, set at a height that lets you mow straight over without scalping.

Fall away from the timber

The strip sheds water away from the palings rather than holding it against them.

Neat around the posts

The strip is finished around each post rather than butted up and left rough.

Questions

Not if the strip sits entirely on your side of the boundary, which is how we build it. It is still worth telling them — we will be working at the fence line.

Yes. The benefit is mostly about weeds and mowing rather than rot, and it still makes the fence line much easier to keep tidy.

No job is too small. Plenty of these are one fence line along one side of a property.

It is priced per lineal metre and it is the most economical concrete we pour. Access is what moves the number.

Yes, and it is cheaper that way. Same crew, same truck, same day.
