The most popular driveway finish in Melbourne
Exposed aggregate is ordinary concrete with the top skin of cement washed off a few hours after the pour, uncovering the stone in the mix. What you end up looking at is real rock, not a dye or a coating.
That is why it wears the way it does. The colour is the stone itself, so it cannot fade off or wear through. The texture gives grip in the wet. And the natural variation hides the tyre marks and leaf stains that show up badly on a flat grey slab.
34 exposed aggregate mixes to choose from
Every mix below is a current Midway exposed aggregate product and every one of them is available on a PROCivils driveway, patio or path. Tap any tile to see it larger. Stone is quarried, so colour, size and density shift a little from batch to batch — use these as a shortlist, then let us bring the real thing to your quote.

Where it works
- Driveways — the most common use, and what most of the range is designed for
- Pool surrounds — grip when wet, lighter stones stay cooler underfoot
- Patios and alfresco areas
- Paths, especially shaded damp spots down the side of a house
- Available in the full Midway range
- Colour can be added to the mix to shift the tone between the stones
Three things worth knowing before you pick
A screen is not a sample
Monitors shift colour, and so do photographs. Look at a physical sample before you commit — Midway keep them at their showroom and we can arrange it.
Natural stone varies
Concrete is made from quarried rock, so no two pours are identical. Minor variation in colour and texture is part of the product, not a defect.
See it wet and dry
Exposed aggregate looks quite different after rain. If you are deciding between two, look at both in both states.

The ones we get asked most
Which mixes are available?
The full Midway exposed aggregate range: Amanda · Bogong Dawn · Bulla · Bypass · Caitlin · Chessboard · Dawn · Deer Park · Eclipse · Geelong · Hotham · Joshua · Josie · Kealba · Konrad · Lake Boga · Lara · Lisa · Logan · Monaco · Namoi · Night · Preston · Python · Queenscliff · Regent · Ross · Sienna · St Albans · Sunray · Thomas · Western · Whitehaven · Witchery. Some mixes come and go with quarry supply — we check availability before your pour and show you the closest alternative if your first choice is not running.
Is exposed aggregate slippery?
No — the exposed stone gives it texture, which is why it is the standard choice around pools and on sloped driveways.
Does it cost much more than plain concrete?
Yes, meaningfully more per square metre. Whether that is worth it depends on whether the area is one you look at. Front driveway, yes for most people. Behind the shed, probably not.
Will it match the photo on this page?
Close, not exact. Stone is quarried, batches differ, and screens distort colour. Always look at a physical sample.
Can I have exposed aggregate with a colour added?
Yes. Oxide can be added to an exposed mix to shift the tone of the cement between the stones.
How do I look after it?
Hose it down, sweep it, and get to oil drips reasonably promptly. Sealing is not compulsory but it helps the surface shed stains and lifts the colour. We offer it where a job calls for it.
